ONLINE VIDEO ART EXHIBITIONS
January - June 2020
"The theme of the Videokanava deals with feminism and femininity in concepts, thinking and action. With feminism, we don’t only mean the gender issue, but also the broader equality movement that questions all inequalities and classifications on the basis of social class, ethnicity, sexuality or age. So the focus of the theme is not just only in the power relations between men and women, but the power relations in general. It is inquiring as to whether or not we can achieve equality if we do not first recognize inequality in all its forms."
The curator of the exhibition is Finnish visual artist Veera Salmio
The exhibition is done in co-operation with World of tango Festival http://maailmantango.net/

Anatolia / Sinasi Gunes
This work contains images of womans who lives in Anatolia and have a different cultural features and relations of woman and womanveling are scrutinized.
In the work, acts of “covered” and “wrapping” do not personalization. Cultural layers of the past do not rich as much as cultural diversity of Anatolia. Cover models in here only imply a gesture. However, different social roles are questioned to point of “feminine” in this work. The video art was made concept of Anatolia refers to consepts of “taboo” and “privacy” in additin to culturel diversity of Anatolia.
Feminine role which appeared in social perform overlaps cover models in the film. For instance, “employed woman” , “ woman in the home”, “the woman next to her husband” etc.
They show psychology of regional wrapping. The film emphasis that not only social strangulation but also cultural object has been converted into women. Especially, woman's freedom…
In addition to being updated to Anatolia, it is a visual feast on on the diversity of traditions with pre/post arguments.
El Vacío de la Nada / Melina Peña
Estonia, Spain, Mexico 2017
For Merleau-Ponty, EXPERIENCE is the possible conditions of space but the unity between the individual and the world is ¨repressed by the experience of daily routines ̈
(Merleau Ponty 1945: 339).
This strange contradiction captures my interest to generate other possibilities of doing in space, where what is considered as NORMAL in terms of our representation and anticipation of THE OTHER is subverted by the body, language and affection.
EL VACÍO DE LA NADA is part of Diaries of a Shaman Series. A series of performances for the Camera. My interest in the body as a sensory platform that connects us to the world, takes me to shamanism as a way of connecting with the forces of nature and dwelling on new social imaginaries as well as questioning our roles for a present and future sustainable life. The figure of the female futuristic shaman acts as an intermediary between the human and non-human world, exposing the grotesque and challenging what is considered beautiful in our society.
Null Object / Citron Lunardi
Null Object moves on the border between video and performance, between desire for life and acceptance of death. The post human mother denies birth and her womb becomes a sort of retro-sci-fi machinery with a bio-mechanical structure that undoes life, does not create but generates death. Null Object presents the scandal of an intimate and personal reflection from joy to pain, from choice to disappointment. These changes of state are also suggested by the spatial trisection that recalls the classicism of the triptych and are developed through simple symbolic elements: the apple, the nails and the thread. All elements that in the iconographic tradition refer to the meaning of pleasure, curiosity, pain, life and death. The video is a contemporary reinterpretation of a classical theme of sacred art and considers the intimate experience of the relationship between sexuality and the social taboo of the rejection of motherhood.
Shik Shak Shok / Shahar Tuchner
"Shik Shak Shok" offers a merge between Eastern and Western cultures in the form of a group of can-can dancers dancing in perfect sync to the sound of a song associated with belly dancing. As the video progresses it raises the question of why Eastern belly dancing is considered so culturally inferior to this day, while can-can dancing, originally associated with prostitutes, is perceived as high culture. The video stresses this tension but also offers a chance for amendment and harmonic mediation.
Shahar Tuchner / The Mensch
The video shows the opposite look of feminism to emphasize the feminist movement.
The video shows Soviet gymnasts performing their exercises in perfect sync with the theme of the popular TV show "The A-Team". Although being a characteristic product of America's capitalistic culture, the show's narrative still seems to express a yearning for the cooperation and joint effort towards a common goal, that is typical of the socialist model.
